Now that summer's here, it's important to make sure that your vehicle is safeguarded
from the extreme temperatures. Here are some
suggestions to help you keep your car running in peak condition
throughout the dog days:
Inspect your vehicle on a routine basis.Check
the tire pressure when your vehicle hasn't
been driven for at least an hour and is parked
in the shade. Next, check the battery for any wear or corrosion -- high
temperatures can speed up corrosion and drain the battery's fluid. Lastly,
check the coolant levels and keep the coolant system is filled.
Pay attention to your warning lights,
especially the battery warning light. If it stays on after you start the
vehicle you may very well have a problem with your alternator.
Lighten the vehicle's load. The
heavier your car, the more strain for a transmission that's already combating
the heat.
Add a layer of protection to the
exterior by giving it a fresh coat of
wax or sealant, and take care of the interior to help preserve its
appearance while you're at it.
