There are plenty of reasons why speeding is bad. First and foremost, it's dangerous, and increases your chances of getting into a run-off-road accident. It's also dangerous to the planet -- driving at high speeds and accelerating too quickly burns excess fuel.
To conserve fuel, it's better to drive slowly (optimum engine efficiency is around 55mph), and accelerate and brake slowly. The opposite of "sporty" driving.
Naturally, safer and more efficient driving techniques don't give your brain that big shot of adrenaline that risky driving gives you, so you're more likely to drive like you're in a race. To fight that natural trend, Ford began equipping each of its hybrid models, like the Fusion Energi, with Efficiency Leaves.
Efficiency Leaves work subtly, but effectively. As you practice more efficient driving habits, a digital vine grows across the EcoGuide LCD screen, becoming larger and more beautiful. The graphics make it look like a video game.
Just like a video game, it makes people instinctively strive for a "high score." Drivers soon find themselves carefully engaging the brakes to come to a gentle stop, which allows the regenerative braking to charge up the battery, and grows another leaf on the vine.
