Continuing its long history of support for The Salvation Army, Ford issued a press release earlier today announcing that it will donate a customized Ford Transit van to the Southeast Michigan chapter. The van will be employed as a disaster response vehicle for The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division Emergency Disaster Services’ canteen fleet.

The Disaster Services response team provides several much-needed services at scenes of various disasters. They provide food, beverages, clothing, blankets, shelter, lighting, clean-up kits, and more to disaster victims and response personnel. The tall yet sleek van has enough room for a person to stand completely upright inside, and features custom installed appliances such as a stove top, microwave, coffeemaker, refrigerator, freezer, sink and electric hot water heater.

“Assisting with disaster relief is an important part of our mission to serve the communities where we live and work,” said Janet Lawson, director, Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford. “The flexibility of the Ford Transit van makes it a great fit for The Salvation Army’s emergency response fleet.”
